BLACKPINK’s ‘Shut Down’ and ‘Tally’ banned from airing by KBS

Two BLACKPINK titles have been banned from broadcasting by KBS.

As every week, KBS reviews all the new titles that the artists wish to be able to broadcast on the antennas of the chain, tracks which are the subject of an eligibility test before the Korean Commission for Communication Standards.

This week, several titles from BLACKPINK’s new album, “BORN PINK”, were banned from being broadcast on KBS.

The two titles concerned for the moment are: “Tally” as well as the title song “Shut Down”.

“Shut Down” was indeed rejected by KBS’s selection criteria, the title having been determined to be unsuitable for broadcast because of “mention of a specific brand in the lyrics”.

As for “Tally,” the track was banned from KBS due to “use of profanity and vulgar words.”

This therefore means that unless there is a change in the lyrics especially for KBS, these songs will not be broadcast on the various antennas of the channel.

Following this judgment, “Shut Down” and “Tally” are therefore normally excluded from the Music Bank and cannot claim victory in the KBS music show.

It remains to be seen whether YG Entertainment will censor the affected lyrics in new versions submitted to KBS or whether the agency will simply ignore the situation by not offering these songs for broadcast on the channel.

However, this concerns only KBS and no other broadcaster, since KBS is the only channel to establish this system.

A third track from the album is also under consideration by KBS for “use of profanity and vulgar words”, it is “Hard to Love”.
