As parts of Seoul recover from the downpour that flooded entire neighborhoods, the city’s stories of danger, courage and resilience are being told.
One account comes from famous comedian and actress Kim Mi Yeon, who shared her husband’s escape from their flooded car.
On the night of August 8, the Gangnam area, along with surrounding neighborhoods, was caught in a historic downpour that flooded their street.
Viral accounts of the floods show the dazzling neighborhood, home to more than 500,000 people, swallowed rainwater. Photos and videos of submerged cars and buses show how deep the waters were. According to insurance reports from August 9, more than 1,000 cars were submerged under water.
Actress Kim Mi Yeon shared that her husband was among those whose car was submerged in the flood. Kim Mi Yeon thanked on her Instagram on August 9 that her husband returned home safe and sound.
