The Minister of Defense spoke about the military service of BTS members.
For many months, this subject has been debated, and we regularly hear about it.
This August 1st in Parliament, the subject was again raised, and it was the Minister of Defense, Lee Jong Sup, who spoke about it.
He stated : “They should serve in the military.”
He then clarified: “I think there must be a way to give them the opportunity to train, and allow them to leave the country and perform at any time, if they have concerts abroad.”
A total exemption was, however, ruled out by the Minister.
According to the latter, “We are trying to look at the situation from several angles, but for now we are considering the option of alternative military service.”
In terms of potentially offering exemptions or benefits to pop-culture artists, the Minister of Defense expressed: “Offering pop artists exemptions could shake the foundations of the alternative service system, so we are approaching this possibility with great caution.”
Discussions should therefore continue in the coming months.
