Haerin from NewJeans shares what she learned about herself, how to be more expressive and more

I’m sure she’s the coolest in the bunch.

NewJeans recently posted a photoshoot and interview with GQ Korea magazine for the October issue and they talked about music, dreams and what they’ve been up to lately.

GQ: Even if you turn off the screen, we can see who the speaker is just by looking at Haerin’s gaze. Even now.

I like to listen to other people’s stories. I tend to focus on listening so I can empathize with them and feel emotions I’ve never felt before. Naturally. I think there are a lot of things I want to feel.

GQ: What is Haerin learning these days being part of New Jeans?

I think I practice expressing a lot of myself these days. Although I have many thoughts and feelings inside of me, it is difficult for me to express them on stage so that others can feel them as well. I’m still inexperienced, but I’m trying to understand.

GQ: From this position, did you dream of the Haerin you are now? I don’t know if we can describe it as a “dream”.

Yes! Even now, sometimes I believe it, sometimes not. Hmm… I can’t think of a specific time, but I was fascinated to be able to feel some emotion from someone I didn’t know at all when hearing someone sing.

I remember this singer, this person, sang a song that they wrote themselves. And then I keep thinking, ‘Is that why I don’t feel like this anymore?’ I thought it was great to be able to convey emotions through songs.

GQ: It seems that the theme of emotions, expression and feelings is always something that surrounds you. Among the different types of emotions, which emotion does Haerin react to most quickly?

Fun! Just as I have always received, I have always wanted to make people happy. It’s the most important thing and I’m very excited when I do well.

Seeing how far they’ve come in just over a month, we’re excited to see how far they’ll go as a next-gen K-Pop girl group!
