Although he has yet to make his official debut, you may already know Beomhan from his tour of the United States last year with the solo artist. Jay Chang. They frequented K-Pop festivals and events, worked as baristas and servers, and performed as part of their Kpop Rookie Trainee Show.

Lately, they returned to Korea and recently released a song called “THE AWAKENING” together.

Beomhan mostly lives in our ICT Tac FYP. He regularly hosts live streams on social media, including the video-sharing app and Twitch. He and Jay also have their own TikTok accounts, and they often participate in trends.

Beomhan has become famous for his charisma and cheerful personality, especially thanks to social networks. However, it did not come without criticism.

Some K-Pop fans criticize Beomhan as it seems he is more active on social media than training and pursuing his K-Pop career.

Such comments became more frequent last week after one of his live broadcasts. He has drawn backlash after making controversial claims about dating in the K-Pop industry.

Lots of apprentices and idols… do it. [date] anyway, what I honestly think is a bit messy, and really unfair to the fans, in my opinion…

—Beoman

Beomhan said he thinks idols should refrain from dating. This belief reiterated the toxic fandom culture that if an idol comes out, they are “cheating” or “betraying” the fans.

I don’t think idols should date because it’s like… even though it’s not like a real relationship, you have a connection with the fans, and it’s literally like you’re betraying that and you go behind their backs. Imagine paying around $200 to go to an idol’s…concert, and that idol paying around $200 to buy presents for his girlfriend. Don’t you think that’s so bad? Isn’t that crazy?

Despite the backlash and criticism Beomhan has faced recently, more fans have stood up for him. They explain that his live broadcasts are well-meaning, that he works very hard, and that he often says and does things because of his ADHD.

Now, Beomhan himself has addressed the criticism on an Instagram Live.

Whatever I think for myself, I like to say about others in a way that just isn’t nice. I was like, ‘Oh, it’s wrong for them to do that.’

Beomhan has personally apologized for his controversial statements about trainees dating idols. He promised to be more careful about how he formulates things in the future.

But it’s like, who am I really to say anything about their lives? Right? So, I apologize, and I’m so sorry… I can see where… there’s a learning point for me, and going forward, I’ll be more careful about how I say things.

He also explained that his opinion at the time was probably based on the training he received in the K-Pop industry. As a result, he projected and realized he was wrong.

And that was also just a bad opinion, like you learn certain things when you get into this industry, and they tell you certain things, and I leave that project on other people. So, I apologize for that, and I’m sorry for the way I phrased it. Sorry for taking L.

Beomhan continued the live stream to further address the hate and additional criticism he had received recently. Over the past week, he’s been attacked for everything from his hyperactive personality to his looks.

But yeah, there are some things I wanted to talk about beyond that, where we got a lot of hate in the first place because of that. … I think, honestly… It’s good. Because no matter what bad things you have to say about me…because of that, people made fun of my appearance, people made fun of my family, people made fun of my fans.

Throughout the live stream, Beomhan attempted to laugh at the hatred he saw directed at him. He pretended it was okay because he’d said the same things to himself before, so it didn’t affect him as much. This included saying disturbing things about hating each other.

And it’s okay, whatever you said about me, I’ve probably said to myself already. If you hate me, and before this incident you thought you were lonely, you’re not because I hate myself too, and I think that’s a common thing here that everyone knows. If you hate me, that’s fine. Anything bad you have to say about me or my appearance or anything, I know it and I said it to myself.

However, he called people out for sending hate to his fans. He wants people to stop in front of him and leave his fans alone.

Where I like to draw that line or where I thought I drew it is when you started reaching out to my fans and you started making fun of my fans asking if they had or not tattoos of us or like, ‘Are you a beomhan Stan?

Additionally, Beomhan has responded to accusations that he does not train and only does live broadcasts.

And they’re like, ‘Hey, when is this guy training? I’ve never seen this guy dance. I do not sleep

—Beoman

He explained his sleep schedule and how it allows him to do both workout and social media. However, this only requires a few hours of sleep.

I do not sleep I wake up at 9 am? 8 or 9, to prepare you for these lifetimes, AM. I post at 7 o’clock. And until I post at 7am I’m training, training, training or whatever. So, 3-4 days a week, I sleep less than 2 hours? At most.

However, Beomhan claimed that it was all of his own choosing. He wants to do the live broadcasts for the fans.

Just to be able to be here and create these lives for you. And that’s not a complaint; it is by choice. I chose to do it because I love them.

While social media has been a great platform that has helped Beomhan and Jay grow their fandom, unfortunately, as popularity grows, so do haters. He went on to express his frustration at the circulation of so many clips of his live streams, taken out of context.

But it’s like…these platforms take things out of context, and you really don’t know anything…and neither do I, which is why I said what I said was wrong. But you have no idea.

Earlier this year, Beomhan suffered a homophobic and racist attack in New York. Also, while talking about it, he tried to laugh, which caused more concerns among the fans.
