Mnet Apologizes For ‘Street Man Fighter’ Producer’s Sexist Remarks Compared to ‘Street Woman Fighter’

Mnet issued an apology.

Recently, the channel launched “Street Man Fighter”, a male version of “Street Woman Fighter” and featuring male dance crews.

Yesterday, one of the show’s dancers issued an apology after mocking NewJeans’ choreography for ‘Hype Boy’, but today that’s a different matter for us.

Indeed, on August 23, during the program’s press conference, the show’s producer, Kwon Young Chan, compared “Strett Man Fighter” with “Street Woman Fighter”, all while using sexist words.

He stated : “If there was envy and jealousy in survival for female dancers, male dancers showed pride and loyalty.”

Considered particularly sexist by very many people, the remark caused controversy, and a press release was finally published on the subject.

“Hello, this is Mnet.

We apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable with a producer’s inappropriate comment during Mnet’s “Street Man Fighter” press conference.

The comment made by the producer was one that does not align with Mnet’s core value of “novelty that shatters prejudice” or our dance program’s production goal of “growth through competition and solidarity” . Mnet feels a deep sense of responsibility for this comment which generalized and was not correct.

Mnet’s “Street Woman Fighter” and “Street Man Fighter” are programs produced to convey joy through dance with the competition and solidarity of professional dancers, and showcase them while focusing on the stories of the dancers.

We are committed to taking various follow-up actions to ensure this does not happen again, so that we do not let those who love our program down. In the future, we will think and work harder. Once again, we sincerely apologize.”
