WM Entertainment Accused of Plagiarizing Key (SHINee) for Lee Chae Yeon’s Debut; The agency responds

WM Entertainment responds to accusations of plagiarism.

Lee Chae Yeon is currently preparing to make her solo debut.

This week, she then revealed what her first solo opus “HUSH RUSH” will sound like.

However, with this revelation came some criticism, as people found similarities between elements of this album from Key’s (SHINee) “Gasoline”.

On October 8, WM Entertainment released an official statement to explain the concept of “HUSH RUSH”.

The agency said:

“Hello, this is WM Entertainment.

We consider the similarities in design between Lee Chae Yeon’s first mini album “HUSH RUSH” and another artist’s album to be deeply unfortunate and heartbreaking, and in response, we issue a statement regarding the first album. solo by Lee Chae Yeon.

1. Our artist Lee Chae Yeon’s first mini album “HUSH RUSH” compares the jitters and excitement of a vampire making her first outing into the world for Lee Chae Yeon’s debut, and we planned not only her album concept but also the shooting of his MV using this same concept.

Additionally, we designed the album packaging as something a “Gen Z vampire” would carry around, and so we designed the album packaging as a transparent bag that shows the items inside. interior, with two different versions: Vampire and Influencer.

Concept-wise, the items in the “vampire version” pack bag are things a vampire might carry, like oversized sunglasses, a blood bag, and eyeballs, while the “influencer version” packaging consists of items with an anti-vampire theme, such as a cross, garlic, a cell phone, and decorative items.

In this way, we combined the idea of a “vampire who wakes up in a lonely castle after 300 years and goes out into the world” with the meaning of “Lee Chae Yeon’s solo debut” to create the concept. of a “Gen Z Vampire”.

2. The images used in the album, such as eyeballs and lightning, are elements that we have put together to express the concept of a vampire, and regarding the key colors of the album cover, we have chose shades that are often used in horror-themed or Halloween-themed designs.

As for the font, we used paid fonts designed by the company Sandoll, Inc. which were inspired by the horror genre, which suited the overall mood of the album well.

3. The heart design on the front of the CD in the Influencer version of the album depicts a vampire’s heart beating again after awakening, as well as the vampire’s beating heart when encountering the new world. Additionally, we added the barbed wire details on the heart because we thought it would convey the particularly cold and creepy aura of a vampire, and the external design company that designed this album purchased the image directly from a paid image website.

4. As such, Lee Chae Yeon’s first mini album “HUSH RUSH” is an album that has a clear image and a unique narrative that it wants to convey.

5. We apologize for causing concern to fans who have been waiting for Lee Chae Yeon’s debut for a long time. As this is an album she prepared over a long period of time, we ask that you warmly watch and show great interest in Lee Chae Yeon’s fresh start and her first mini album “HUSH RUSH” .

Thanks.”
