The show ‘Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook’ stops.
For some time, Yoo Hee Yeol has been targeted by accusations of plagiarism.
It all started following accusations that he had plagiarized “Aqua” by Ruichi Sakamoto. Yoo Hee Yeol then ended up acknowledging the plagiarism, stating: “Because he’s a musician I respect and influenced me for a long period of my life, I created a similar song without realizing it because his songs were on my mind. At the time, I thought it was my unique creation, but I have to recognize the similarities between the two songs.
As a result, many plagiarism accusations finally followed against Yoo Hee Yeol, claiming he plagiarized from many different artists.
On July 18, it was then announced that the show presented by Yoo Hee Yeol was going to stop after 13 years of broadcasting.
The decision was made following Yoo Hee Yeol’s choice to leave the presentation.
In a letter, Yoo Hee Yeol announced:
“Hello, this is Yoo Hee Yeol.
First of all, I would like to once again sincerely apologize to you for causing people fatigue for a long time due to the controversy surrounding me.
We generously ask for your understanding that the decision on my show has been delayed because many people, including the production team I work with, needed time to prepare.
After seeing the many cases pouring in, I reflected on my life for the first time. I think what has been most heartbreaking to hear is that the time that has passed suddenly seems to be denied. It’s as far as I can’t imagine how great the feeling of loss is.
There is a part of the current plagiarism allegations that I have a hard time agreeing with. Many of the allegations may be individual opinions and interpretations, but they are difficult for me to accept. I will watch more strictly what I do so that a controversy like this does not happen again.
We plan to wrap up “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook” after episode 600 ends. I sincerely express my gratitude to the many people who cherished the program for the long 13 years and 3 months. I am sincerely grateful to the production team and all the staff involved for working hard until the end.
In order to minimize damage to the program and the production team, we plan to complete the final recording by this week. I will do my best to fulfill my remaining responsibilities so that no further damage is caused.
I will take the time to think about where I am now and what I have left to do without turning away. I apologize once again for causing concern to all people who appreciate music. Finally, I bow in gratitude to all those who have trusted and cherished me, I who have had shortcomings for a long time.
